32 Football “Fans” from Croatia Arrested in Serbia

ZAGREB, August 3, 2018 – Serbian police on Friday arrested a group of fans of Croatia’s Hajduk Split football club who rampaged at a gas station outside Belgrade, on their way from Split to Sofia where Hajduk is scheduled to play Slavia, according to media in Belgrade whose claims have been confirmed by Serbian Interior Minister Nebojša Stefanović.

Stefanović said Serbian police have stopped more than 400 Croatian fans on the highway and found a large number of wooden and meat bats that the supporters were personally carrying or had hidden in their vehicles as well as several axes and fire torches and a small amount of narcotics.

He confirmed that police have arrested 32 football fans.

Hajduk fans, who were travelling in a motorcade of about 30 cars and vans, caused chaos at the “Mola” gas station on the state highway outside Vrčin on Thursday.

Police confirmed that Hajduk fans had also stolen a large amount of alcoholic beverages from the gas station.
