The Zagreb district of Sesvete will receive a brand new football stadium in 2018, with the new modern expression developed by the studio Proarh architect Davor Mateković. The stadium will be built around the retention of the existing terrain of the current stadium “Sv. Josip Radnik”.

The new stadium in Sesvete will cost about 60 million kuna, and has been largely funded by the City of Zagreb. The funds will also enable the Croatian Football Federation and the Council of Neighborhoods Sesvete. Two-thirds of the funds will be covered by the City and financial structure will be closed by HNS and the neighborhood Sesvete, reports Index.hr.

“The long plan to make a real stadium that will meet not only the needs of Sesvete, because in this district there are over 90 thousand people, but also the needs for football in Zagreb and for Croatian football in general,” said the president of second division Sesvete, Pero Karatović.

The stadium, which will host 7,000 spectators, will have all the necessary permits under the umbrella of UEFA for match play, with the possible performances of other clubs in Zagreb and the selections of the Croatian national football team’s official matches.

The stadium is designed as a compact arena with covered stands in the east and the west where the terrain is close to the fans like the stadiums in England – in the form of “shells” for maximum aesthetic appeal. The new stadium will have modern dressing rooms, a press box for 40 representatives of the media with their audiovisual infrastructure, a business center under the west stand, a VIP section fit for 200, and the most modern facilities for the management of the Club.

The stadium will not be only for football, but also for other athletics.

“The total project documentation has been completed and on the ground we have already completed the excavation works and the protection of the construction pit. This project should build on the recently completed pool complex and thus round off a single unit of the sports center in Maksimir,” concluded architect Davor Mateković.
