Marin Čilić had many reasons to celebrate after winning the round of 16 at the Australian Open.
Croatia’s best tennis player Marin Čilić won in the fourth round of the Australian Open in Melbourne, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season. Čilić defeated Spain’s Pablo Carreno-Busta 6-7 (2), 6-3, 7-6 (0), 7-6 (3), reports Gol.hr on January 21, 2018.

This win was Čilić’s 100th Grand Slam win in his career and his 11th time placing in the quarterfinals, thus equating the record of Goran Ivanišević’s for the most quarterfinals among Croatian tennis players.

Čilic will face Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals who defeated Argentine Diego Schwartzmann 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-3 in the round of 16.

Nadal is currently the number one tennis player in the world. Against Čilić, the Spaniard has five wins and one loss. The last time the two faced one another was at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Shanghai where Nadal claimed the victory.
