Big Weekend for Croatian Footballers: Goals, Assists, and Debuts All Over Europe

Croatia’s best footballers shined all over Europe over the weekend. 

Croatia’s World Cup stars are mostly settled back in their clubs and beginning the 2018/19 season in their respective leagues. Some players adorn the colors of new clubs, while others are now the heroes of their team – but one thing we know for certain is that Croatian footballers are making sure we know their names.

Here’s a look a what Croatia’s footballers achieved around Europe over the weekend. 

Mario Mandžukić scores for Juventus

Italian champion Juventus celebrated in the second round of Serie A, overcoming Lazio 2:0. Lazio introduced new signing Milan Badelj onto the pitch in the 64th minute.

While Pjanić first put Juventus in the lead in the first half, after a miss by Ronaldo, Mario Mandžukić brought Juventus to a 2:0 lead in the 75th minute. Mandžukić played the whole game.

Livaja scores and assists for AEK

Marko Livaja, a newcomer Dalić has called up for the upcoming national team games against Portugal and Spain, was key for AEK’s win against Giannina over the weekend. Livaja first assisted Ponce in the 37th minute, then went on to score in the 47th for the 2:0 win. He played 64 minutes when he was substituted by Mantalosa.

Filip Bradarić assists for Cagliari, Darijo Srna debuts

Cagliari played a 2:2 draw in the second round of Serie A at home against Sassuolo, which saw Darijo Srna debut for the club and play all 90 minutes.

Filip Bradarić came onto the pitch in the 71st minute and only two minutes later, he assisted Pavoletti for a 2:1 lead. Marko Pajač remained among the Cagliari reserves. 

Ivan Santini assists for Anderlecht 

Anderlecht suffered the first defeat in the new Belgian championship in the derby against Club Brugge who celebrated 2:1. Ivan Santini assisted Musona’s only goal for Anderlecht in the 19th minute. Santini and Antonio Milić played the whole match for Anderlecht, as did Karlo Letica and Matej Mitrović for Club Brugge.

Borna Barišić assists for Glasgow Rangers 

In the third round of the Scottish Championships, the Rangers played 3:3 against Motherwell, with Borna Barišić assisting for the third Rangers goal in the 43rd minute by Ejari. He played up until the 78th minute when he was replaced by Middleton. Nikola Katić played the whole game.

Ivan Perišić scores for Inter, Šime Vrsaljko debuts 

Inter and Torino drew in the second round of Serie A on Sunday (2:2), which saw all three World Cup finalists play for Inter – Ivan Perišić, Marcelo Brozović and Šime Vrsaljko who made his Inter debut. 

Already in the 7th minute, a brilliant ball was crossed to Perišić, who nailed the net with his right foot from the penalty area. 

Perišić and Brozovic played the whole game for Inter, while Vrsaljko played until the 71st minute.
