Borna Ćorić has advanced to the quarterfinal of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami after another marathon match where he showed incredible mental strength.
Borna Ćorić is in the quarterfinal of the Miami Open after defeating Canadian tennis player Denis Šapovalov! After two hours and 17 minutes of tennis, Ćorić claimed the victory with 7:6, 4:6, 6:4, reports Gol.hr on March 28, 2018.
This is Borna’s third match in a row in Miami where he won 2:1 in sets, and the third time he played for more than two hours and 15 minutes. Let’s remember, in the first two games, he celebrated against Leonard Mayer and Jack Sock at 2:1, and both matches lasted for almost three hours!
In the first set against the 18-year-old Šapovalov, there was no chance for a break, so a tie-break decided the winner. Borna was brilliant and without error, taking that part of the game 7:2.
The concentration and play on the starting serve fell in the second set, leaving both players the chance to break. Šapovalov took 3:2 with a break, while Borna returned to 4:4, but immediately in the next game, he dropped the starting serve again. Šapovalov then kept the service free and took the match to the third set.
Ćorić’s first break was in the decisive set where he led 4:2, but immediately after the break, he lost his service. After retaining his 5:4 service, Šapovalov made several double errors and allowed Ćoric two match balls.

Though Borna did not take advantage of them, he received one more after another great error by the Canadian. The third one was good luck and Borna advanced to the quarterfinals where he will play against Alexander Zverev Jr, who defeated Nick Kyrgios 6:4, 6:4.
Ćorić and Zverev have played against each other twice so far, and both times on American soil. Borna was able to overcome Zverev in both duels.
