Two contracts were signed yesterday in Split’s City Hall by both parties.
Split Mayor Andro Krstulović Opara and President of Hajduk Ivan Kos signed a contract to increase the share ownership of the city in the football club from 56 percent to 65.92 percent. Behind the City of Split and its 65.92 percent, the most significant share ownership in Hajduk is Naš Hajduk (24.53 percent), reports Gol.hr on March 21, 2018.
Mayor Krstulović Opara also signed a contract with the director of the Center for Restructuring and Sales (CERP) Milan Plezaša, which gives the City of Split a claim of CERP from Hajduk of about 2.28 million kuna plus interest.
“Today’s contract signing with the leadership of Hajduk and the City of Split, the legal owner of a significant stake of 9.82 percent of Hajduk’s shares, which amounts to about 26 million kuna, will thus increase our share in Hajduk to 65.92 percent,” said the Split Mayor.
Krstulović Opara explained that the increase in share ownership of Hajduk was negotiated with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković last autumn.
“At my request, the Government transferred 9.82 percent of Hajduk’s shares from the portfolio of the state to the portfolio of the City of Split,” said Krstulović Opara, recalling that the Government of Croatia, in its session held on November 23, 2017, made the decision to transfer these shares to the City of Split.
The Split mayor, speaking about the contract with CERP, said:
“We will convert these claims, in agreement with Hajduk, into a proprietary package, thus increasing the shareholding of the City of Split to Hajduk by 67.37 percent, with a possible recapitalization that we would do to further resolve the open issues inherited between Hajduk and the City, which also relate to the unpaid communal fee,” Krstulović Opara said.
“With these two contracts we signed today, HNK Hajduk becomes a club with apparent rules in which the majority owner of Hajduk is just the City of Split and no one else,” said Krstulović Opara.
On Tuesday, the City Council of Split approved the proposals for signing these two contracts.
President of Hajduk Ivan Kos expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with Mayor Krstulović-Opar and with the current government.
“Thanks to the Government of the Republic of Croatia and Mayor Krstulović Opara. We will continue to work together to solve problems, and today Hajduk does not have any more ‘skeletons in their closet’ which could bite the business,” Kos said, quoting the agreement as “the right path” to overcome the difficulties Hajduk suffered in the past.
