The Croatian Football Federation, in partnership with technical sponsor Nike, has officially unveiled the new Croatia national team kits, set to be worn by the Vatreni at this year’s FIFA World Cup in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

The new collection blends Croatia’s football heritage with modern technological innovation, drawing clear inspiration from a defining moment in national football history — the 1990 match against the United States. Played just before Croatia declared independence, it marked the team’s first game in modern history. That sense of pride, unity, and patriotism is woven into the design of the new kits.

“These new kits carry a strong connection to that historic match against the USA, which holds great symbolic value, especially as we marked its 35th anniversary last year, and the USA is one of this year’s tournament hosts,” said Croatian Football Federation president Marijan Kustić. “It’s important to preserve the memory of those moments, the matches and the people who built Croatian football. I’m confident both players and fans will wear this kit with pride. It once again highlights how special our team is, with its iconic chequered pattern.”

The home kit features Croatia’s signature red-and-white checks in a more refined, smaller pattern, inspired by the original 1990 design but adapted for the demands of the modern game. The away kit introduces a dark blue version with tonal checks, creating a strong and elegant visual identity that complements the home strip.

Captain Luka Modrić also shared his thoughts: “Even though I’ve had the honor of wearing the most beautiful shirt in the world 194 times, that moment never loses its meaning. This kit reminds me strongly of the one from 1990. We’ve all seen those historic scenes that marked the beginning of this incredible journey. I find this design inspiring; it connects us to the great players who laid the foundation for today’s success. The kit is modern, lightweight, and comfortable, but most importantly, it keeps what matters most — Croatia’s identity. We will wear it with great pride.”

A special detail inside the shirt carries the word “Family,” symbolizing the unity between the team, its fans, and the entire nation.

The new kits are available through the official Croatian Football Federation online store and Sport Vision outlets. For the first time, fans will also be able to purchase the goalkeeper kit. The red-and-white kit will make its on-pitch debut on March 26 against Colombia, while the blue kit will be worn for the first time on March 31 against Brazil.

The kits are produced using Nike’s Aero-FIT technology, designed to ensure optimal ventilation and temperature regulation under high-performance conditions. Built with advanced materials and recycling processes, they also reflect a more sustainable approach to sportswear production.
