In a dramatic final, Croatia overcame Spain to win the European Championship in Novi Sad!

Croatia’s U16 basketball team is the new champion of Europe! In the dramatic final of the European Championship in Novi Sad, Croatia overcame Spain 71:70, reports Gol.hr on August 18, 2018.

At a score of 67:67 with 19 seconds to go, Roko Prkačin’s brutal dunk brought two points for Croatia’s advantage.

Spain then called a time-out and responded excellently, knocking Croatia’s lead with five seconds before the end. Croatian coach Milan Karakaš then also called for a minute of rest.

Prkačin, however, came to the rescue once again, giving Croatia an advantage Spain failed to overcome in the remaining three seconds.

Prkačin’s role in the final was definitely crucial, and apart from his double-double (18 points and 10 rebounds), the biggest contribution to Croatia’s great triumph was given by Boris Tišma with 24 points.

Filip Paponja scored nine, Matej Bošnjak and Ivan Perasović scored eight, while Tomislav Ivišić scored four points.

Congrats to Croatia’s youngest basketball stars!
