Croatia Selected as One of 10 Best Teams Ahead of World Cup 2018

The Croatian national team has found themselves in the top 10 teams ahead of the World Cup by popular football portal Squawka.

The last representative break has come to an end just before the final leg of the national football championships. Another month and a half left before the end of the season, and the best footballers in the world, after a very short break, will once again gather with their national teams, reports Gol.hr on March 29, 2018.

Over the last few days, we have seen all the players in action with their national teams. Some teams showed power, others experimented, some players hid, and there were significant disappointments – leaving us with a taste of everything. With that said, two and a half months before the start of the World Cup in Russia, popular English football portal Squawka has uncovered the strongest teams in their ‘Top 10 Nations Heading into the 2018 World Cup‘, released on March 28, 2018.

Squawka’s list of the ten best teams ahead of the competition displayed some pretty interesting choices, and no, not just because Croatia was selected in the top 10. It might be best if Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t take a look, as Portugal, former European champions, didn’t even make the cut.

Argentina, Croatia’s opponent and so-called favorite to win Group D,  barely made the list at number 10. The finalists of the World Cup in 2014 have arguably the best player in the world, Lionel Messi, to lead this team in Russia, but after a shocking 6:1 defeat to Spain earlier this week, do they have what it takes? And more importantly, does Croatia have what it takes to top the group? In front of Argentina in the number 9 position is England – but in the 8th spot? Croatia.

“Perennial dark horses Croatia find themselves in a winnable group with misfits Argentina and the inconsistent Nigeria. They will head into the tournament with an incredible and in-form midfield that could give any side a run for its money. If they can keep things slick at either end of the pitch, they will be a force to be reckoned with. Expect them to make the quarter-finals,” writes Squawka.

The list continues with Belgium in 7th, Columbia in 6th, France in 5th, Uruguay in 4th, Germany in 3rd, Brazil in 2nd, and Spain at number one.
