Ivan Ljubičić will replace Stefan Edberg as assistant coach

One of the world’s best tennis players, Swiss Roger Federer, is starting the new year with a new coaching team. As the player announced on his official website and his Facebook page on December 9, 2015, Stefan Edberg would not be travelling with him this year, and while his countryman Severin Luthi will remain his head coach, Croatian tennis great and former World No. 3 player Ivan Ljubičić will replace Edberg.

This is a great honour for the renowned Croatian tennis player turned coach, and recognition of his coaching achievements since he left the ATP tour. During his 15-year tennis career, Ljubičić won 10 ATP titles, Davis Cup and a bronze Olympic medal with Mario Ančić.

He spent the last two years coaching Miloš Raonić from Canada, and helped him reach Wimbledon semi-finals in 2014, they parted ways two weeks ago and now we know why.

Ivan Ljubičić is just two years older than Federer, and they met 16 times on court. Ljubičić defeated him three times, and interestingly enough, they never played against each other in any of the Grand Slams. Ljubičić and Federer are close friends so we hope this will be a very successful cooperation on and off the tennis court.
