First game this Friday
After a long 36-year wait and the 1979 Mediterranean games, field hockey is returning to Dalmatia. Way back then, this sport way played on Val’s football pitch in Kaštel Stari, but now enthusiasts from newly formed field hockey team Spartanci (Spartans) will play their games on Hajduk’s auxiliary pitch.
They won’t have an easy task though. Their first opponent this Friday is Mladost from Zagreb, Croatian champion 11 years running. The game starts at 20:00 and if you are interested in the ins and outs of this sport, pay them a visit and cheer.
One of the founders of Spartanci, Nikola Barbarić commented their choice of the very first opponent : ” We wanted the first game to be remembered. Our goal is to introduce field hockey to all sport enthusiasts in Split and to gather some game experience. Hopefully, soon we will have more clubs opening across Dalmatia so we will have new teams to play against.
And since this is Split, we can’t have the very first game in 36 years without a song to commemorate the day. Nikola and Vanja Pastuović have already written a song for the supporters, and the game will be followed by a small gathering and banquet. So, if you’re after a great sports evening out combined with some music and few snacks, head to Hajduk’s auxiliary pitch this Friday at 20:00.
