Spaniards, Brazilians, Colombians, Nigerians, Cameroonians, and Koreans have all been tempted by the excitement of the Croatian First League, and just this year, we can add China to the list.
Back in August, the Croatian First League saw the signing of the first Chinese footballer. Feng Buyouan, a 22-year-old from China, was signed by NK Rudeš on a one year loan – the striker arrived from the Chinese first-team Liaoning where he had seven appearances and one goal.
Now that Croatia’s first Chinese footballer has been in Croatia for a few months, 100 Posto caught up with Feng to see precisely how he is finding Croatia on December 18, 2017.
Feng Buyouan chose to join the Zagreb club Rudeš in the Croatian First League. How is that going?
“Like a bright sky, there was a chance. My agent suggested that I come to Croatia, and Nikica Jelavić had a great role. I’m honored to be the first Chinese in Croatian football,” said Buyouan.
What has fascinated him most about Croatia?
“There were no shocks, prejudices; I experienced wonderful hospitality. Strangers on the road are great, and I’m surprised by the unexpected kindness even in the bakery. I am not used to that,” he added.
Buyouan also enjoys Zagreb’s love for dogs.
“It’s nice to see how many people like animals and dogs. It is like that in China more and more, even though there are restaurants where they are still in pots.”
How does he like Croatian dishes?
“It’s a good thing that I love meat because I see that meat is used a lot here. In China, we love to put vegetables together with meat, and here it is very extreme. But I love meat, and I have a great time eating Croatian dishes.”
And, as we might have guessed, Buyouan’s favorite meal?
“It’s just one of the best – ćevapi.”
