The sixth round of the Croatian First League was completed last night.

While the focus has been tightening on our Croatian teams competing in the Champions League and Europa League playoffs, we must not forget about our beloved Croatian First League (HNL).

Round six came to completion last night with matches by Dinamo and Slaven Belupo and Osijek and Inter Zaprešić, and since all of the results are in, here is our round six recap.

Istra 1961 v Cibalia (0:1)

Istra 1961 and Cibalia faced one another on August 18, 2017, at Stadion Aldo Drosina in Pula. Istra’s Renato Gojković scored an own goal in the 26th minute, making the score 0:1 for Cibalia. Cibalia did not score again in the match. The final score was 0:1. Istra 1961 has not won in the last 5 games.

Rijeka v Lokomotiva (2:1)

The Croatian Champion Rijeka defeated Lokomotiva 2:1 at Rujevica on August 19, 2017. Lokomotiva was up 0:1 with a goal by Lovre Majer in the 18th minute, and remained in the lead until the 80th minute.

Although Rijeka attacked ferociously, it was until the last ten minutes of the match when they saw the back of the net. First, in the 80th minute, Filip Bradarić equalized with the help of Šemper, the goalkeeper of Lokomotiva. Four minutes later, Šemper defended a penalty by Rijeka’s Florentin Matei, but the Romanian footballer saw the back of the net in the fourth minute of extra time to make the score 2: 1.

Rijeka has so far avoided their third defeat in a row and is hoping to win in the return match of the Champions League play-off against Olympiakos in Rijeka this week. Lokomotiva has received their fourth defeat in six games.

Rudeš, unfortunately, made it easy for Hajduk in the first half after they received two red cards – a double yellow in the 24th minute by Vuco and in the 30th minute by Borevković.
