Goran Ivanišević for BBC: For Sure You’re Coming Home, But I Hope Without a Trophy

Croatian tennis legend Goran Ivanišević gives his thoughts on the Croatia and England semi-final tomorrow in Moscow.

Though all of Croatia’s best tennis players have been eliminated from Wimbledon, there is still one legend of Croatian sport and a former winner of the prestigious tournament remaining – Goran Ivanišević.

Though he’s in England following the tennis tournament, Ivanišević has made sure he doesn’t miss out on Croatia’s World Cup run in Russia – and with great interest, the tennis legend is closely following the upcoming semi-final matchup between Croatia and England tomorrow in Moscow.

The tennis player announced the decisive match for the BBC in classic Ivanišević fashion, though his comments may not go over well with fans of the England national team.

“I hope that we will not lose to the English because you were already in the final, you already won, you’re coming home, you’re bringing a trophy, you are so arrogant, you are the best, you are the most beautiful. For sure you’re coming home, but I hope without a trophy,” Goran said in good spirits.

When asked where he will watch the match, Goran replied:

“I hope that it’s not playing at the same time [as Wimbledon]. I hope it plays first so I can go somewhere to the pub and watch it with other English people, and you know, hopefully, I’m going to be the last one standing and laughing!”
