Hajduk Split’s famous fan group celebrates their 67th birthday today.
Since ancient times and the establishment of Hajduk in 1911, organized fans have always been a part of football – a togetherness that encouraged then students Vjenceslav Žuvela, Ante Ivanišević, and Ante Dorić to create Hajduk Split’s treasured Torcida.
With the goal in mind of creating an atmosphere similar to that of Brazilian stadiums during the 1950 World Cup in Rio de Janerio, Torcida Split was founded by Žuvela, Ivanišević, and Dorić on October 28, 1950, before Hajduk and Red Star Belgrade would meet at then Hajduk stadium Stari Plac.
Determined to support their beloved team through a victory with their newly founded fan group, Hajduk ultimately defeated Red Star on October 29, 1950, with a score of 2:1. The winning goal was achieved by legendary Hajduk footballer Božo Broketa in the 86th minute.

The celebration was indescribable, and that season, Hajduk went on to win the championship without a single defeat, an achievement that remains unmatched today. The rest is history and Torcida are now known as the oldest organized fan group in Europe.
Today, Torcida is more vibrant than ever, their home in the north stands of Poljud for every match.

Torcida permeates through the city walls, the stadium seats, and the hearts of every Hajduk supporter around the world. Without Torcida, we could not imagine Hajduk – their relationship is inexplicable, and their love lives forever.
Just like Hajduk.
