Luka Modric was a key figure in yesterday’s El Clasico match between Real Madrid and Barcelona which ended in a draw at Camp Nou (1:1). Not only did the Croatian midfielder assist Sergio Ramos for an equalizer in injury time, but he was the true master of the mid-field, reports Vecernji List.
“Luka Modric again gave a football lesson at Camp Nou. This is not the first time, and probably not the last, but the match was one for the Croat to remember. He was everywhere, with the ball and without it. The proof of that is in his percentage of successful passes (95.2%) and he was the second player in interceptions (Modric had 8 after Varane’s 10),” wrote Marca.
“Luka Modric was a key player. This particularly applies to the first half where, besides doing his usual job, he played an excellent role as defender,” writes AS and notes that he had the highest percentage of successful passing of all midfielders in the game.
Index reports that the Catalan La Vanguardia called Modric “LORD OF THE FIELD” adding that: “The Croat has been the backbone of Real Madrid. He defended almost every player of Barcelona, including Leo Messi. He was seamless in reading the game of his rivals and led the game of his team. In addition, he assisted on Real Madrid’s only goal.”
The British Daily Mail said that Luka overshadowed all the other stars of El Clasico, and ESPN claims that he won the battle in midfield.
Renowned BBC even declared Modric the man of the match, adding that, “Luka Modric was excellent. He did his job in the first half, and in the second he perfectly found the head of Sergio Ramos.”
So what does Modric have to say?
“Let’s go game by game. Against Barcelona we were good, especially in the first half, scoring in the 90th minute for us was like a victory. A series of 33 matches without defeat can not be a coincidence, I’m proud of the team,” concluded Modric on Index.
