After the second round of the Champions League was played on Thursday, UEFA recapped the most beautiful goals of the week, where Ivan Rakitić’s strike was declared the winner.
“It is a great honor to receive this award. I’ll put it in a special place in my home. This is certainly one of the most beautiful goals I scored. It is an even better feeling that I have scored it against one of the best European teams,” said Rakitić.
Rakitić’s goal was chosen ahead of the second-placed goal by Arnaut Groeneveld of Club Brugge, Paulo Dybala of Juventus and Neymar of PSG.
Ivan Rakitić was also named the winner of this year’s Premio Barca Jugadors award for the 2017/18 season, which is awarded by former Barcelona players for the best player of the year. Behavior is taken into account, as is fair play and the player’s relationship with the club. It is important to note that Messi, Iniesta, Pique, Sergio Roberto, and Ter Stegen were also in the competition for this award.
Rakitić deserved the prize thanks to his ‘obedience, humor and rational nature, and the way he adapted to the club and his culture’.
