Great news for Osijek football!
Thursday, December 14, 2017, marked the start of the construction for the new football camp of NK Osijek. The total investment for the project was 8 million EUR, reports Gol.hr on December 14, 2017.
The project forsees the construction of nine football fields and state-of-the-art football schools, while a significant amount of funds, worth 3.3 million EUR, was provided by the Hungarian Government.
President of the Osijek Football Club Ivan Meštrović said that the completion of the project is expected in less than two years and will be realized with the help of the Osijek City Administration and Hungarian partners.
“Although the project comes at a time that is extremely ungrateful for such investments, we will make the most modern football school not only in Croatia but the region,” said Meštrović.
The Osijek Mayor Ivan Vrkić thanked the Management Board and the majority owner and Hungarian entrepreneur Lorinac Meszaros, without which this project would not be, considering that this event is important not only for the club but also an incentive for investments in all other segments of social activity.
“The most important thing is to create the conditions for the life and development of young generations so that the development of their talents and their success and glory can be created here and not have to be sought in the world,” said Vrkić. Vrkić also pointed out that all of this could not work “if there were no serious investment in NK Osijek”.
Otherwise, Osijek defeated Rudeš on Saturday and after 19 wins is in the second place of the Croatian First League. While they are tied with Hajduk on points, they have a better goal differential than the Split cup for second place.
