A new stadium for NK Osijek is on the horizon, and it will be the best stadium Croatia has seen!
NK Osijek announced yesterday that due to poor weather conditions, and precisely the cold and snow the country is experiencing, their game on Saturday at City Garden Stadium will not be played against Inter and has been postponed to next week.
Though this news was disappointing for many NK Osijek fans, the club took this opportunity to announce some rather unexpected news destined to delight fans of the club near and far, reports Index.hr on March 2, 2018.
The new owners of NK Osijek, President Ivan Meštrović and investors from Hungary, announced the construction of a new stadium in Osijek, which today is somewhat difficult to imagine in Croatia.
Apart from the construction of the NK Osijek Camp Pampas School of Football which officially began preparatory work in December last year, Osijek is intensifying all preparations and is constructing a new stadium, reported the club from the Drava.
President of the club Ivan Meštrović revealed the details of the new stadium in three most important points…
The capacity for the new stadium will be higher than 10,000 seats, and it will be the first fully covered stadium in Croatia (finally!). But perhaps the really unique part? Fans will be able to follow the games from the comfort of a bed, sauna or jacuzzi!
The ambitious new club owners have had great success since they took over the club more than a year and a half ago. Osijek rose from a difficult situation and, last summer, impressed Europe by knocking out the famous PSV in the European League pre-season. This season, the construction of a soccer camp began, and the club also showed that they managed to bring in new talent, retain the best players and further strengthen their team in the transitional period.
Currently, Osijek is fighting against Hajduk and Rijeka for the second place in the league. This week, the club celebrated its 71st birthday, and for the occasion pulled a surprising move – rewarding fellow citizens born on that day with a symbolic amount of money. It appears that in the town of Drava there is a club that would, like Rijeka not so long ago, soon be able to disrupt the relationship of strength in the Croatian First League.
