Croatian Karate Team has won four medals in the European Karate Championship in Montpellier, France.
We have reported about the Croatian Team’s problems at the European Karate Championships, but on May 8, 2016, we are happy to report about the success of the team. Female Kumite Team has lost the finals against Azerbaijan on points. Ana Lenard got a draw in the first match, but Ivona Tubić lost her match 8-0, as she was struggling with the injury. Azra Saleš did her best in the last battle to tie the score, had the 5-0 lead, but her attack in the dying seconds of the match was not awarded with points.
Nevertheless, a stellar achievement by the female team, which was rounded up with two more bronze medals by Maša Martinović in 68+ kg category, and Ana Lenard in -61 kg category.
The Male Kumite team finished in the seventh position, as did Zvonimir Živković in the individual competition of the -84 kg category.
And just minutes ago, male Kata team won the bronze medal, as Tomislav Stolar, Ivan Ermenc, and Damjan Padovan defeated the Russian team 4-1 in the bronze medal match. There is nothing left but to extend our congratulations to Croatian athletes and wish them a safe drive home, since, as we have already reported, it is going to be a long one.
