Vekić won the game in just 72 minutes.

Croatian tennis player Donna Vekić (WTA – 55) defeated Belgian player Yanina Wickmayer (WTA – 101) 7-6 (2), 6-1 in the 3rd round of Wimbledon! For the first time in her career, Donna advanced to the second week of a Grand Slam tournament, reports Gol.hr on July 6, 2018.

The Osijek tennis player needed only 72 minutes to win, in which she had great use of her first serve, hitting 33 of the 36 points played (92%), out of which 11 were aces.

Vekić took advantage of four of five breaks and made the first break to lead 2-0. However, the advantage did not last, and in the first set, the decision fell only in the tie-break. In the decisive game, Vekić dominated, lead 5-1 and held her advantage without any problems.

After winning the first set, Vekić played even better, and the breaks in the first, fifth and seventh games helped her win the second set in just 24 minutes.

Before Wimbledon, the best result of the 22-year Osijek player was the 3rd round of Roland Garros in 2015 and last year’s US Open.
