The WTA Croatia Bol Open semifinals will take place tomorrow at the Bluesun Tennis Center in Bol.
Tena Lukas continues to succeed at the WTA Croatia Bol Open!
In the quarterfinal of the WTA tournament, she defeated the 112th best player in the world, Colombian Mariana Duque-Marino with 6:4, 4:6, 6:1. Already yesterday she achieved her best career result with placement into the quarters, and today’s victory has confirmed her success once more.
“At the beginning, it was not difficult, but in the second set, when I started to feel nervous, my concentration and strength fell, but somehow I managed to calm down and take it to the end of the match,” Lukas commented. The third set was full of breaks, and Tena had a lot of problems with her serve though she managed to make it through the game.
With another excellent result in the bag, what was so special for Lukas in Bol?
“Everything – the country, the ball, everything! I feel so relaxed, I am really enjoying the game but I have to repeat my success again. The audience is great – they are so good that you can’t easily lose,” she said.
Though she grew up around tennis courts, Tena’s older sister Tajna and brother Feliks were the ones engaged in tennis, and her father was a tennis coach. Aware of how demanding this sport is, Tena tried to focus on volleyball and other sports as a child, but she couldn’t escape the ‘tennis genius’.
In her career so far, the 23-year-old had plenty of ups and downs and lacked consistency, but as she admitted herself, tennis matures, and the results can be seen:
“I used to play a little bit, but I was nervous and I always had something to worry about. Now I focus 100 percent on tennis, I’m focused at all costs, and I realized that it was my job,” Tena said.
In tomorrow’s semifinal on the central court of the Bluesun Tennis Center, Lukas will play against her doubles partner, Slovenian Tamara Zidanšek, starting at 17:30.
“Tamara and I know each other well, and we will certainly play an interesting match. We have played quite a lot together, and the last couple of times she won, but it was fun. I hope the viewers will enjoy it,” Tena concluded.
The semifinal matches of the WTA Croatia Bol Open will be transmitted directly onto the second HTV program from 17:30.
In the second semi-fixture, Italian Sara Errani will play against the better of V. Golubić and M. Linette.
