We recently published a list of 66 most beautiful beaches in Croatia. Even though each item on the list is sure to dazzle you, there’s a lot of destinations that wouldn’t make a good pick for families with children.
Here’s a new selection of best beaches – thankfully, shorter than 66 – that are safe for small children, coming from Večernji list.
1. Punta rata, Brela: a gorgeous gravel beach located in Brela on Makarska riviera, Punta rata is a cape lined with crystal clear water, a stripe of golden gravel and a pine forest providing enough shade for a quick break from the sun. There’s a saying about Punta rata that states lying on the beach implies your feet will be dipped in the sea, your body in the sun and your head in the shade – a perfect summer position. The Forbes magazine pronounced Punta rata one of 10 most beautiful beaches in the world back in 2004, and it hasn’t lost any of its appeal in the time that’s passed.
2. Zaton near Zadar: the beach is a part of the Zaton Holiday Resort, a family vacation destination filled with amusement parks, pools and water slides, along with bars and restaurants. The sand beach is perfect for kids, as they can make sandcastles, bathe in shallow water and have fun on multiple playgrounds while parents monitor the situation from their spot beneath the parasol.
3. Vela beach, Baška, Krk island: a 1.8km stripe with both sand and gravel to choose from, accompanied by multiple beach bars and attractive sports activities. It’s recommended to young people, couples, families with kids or anyone looking to spend an active day on the beach instead of just dozing off and soaking up some sun.
4. Queen’s beach, Nin near Zadar: the longest beach in Nin measures 3 whole kilometres. It owes its name to the wife of the first Croatian king Tomislav, as she supposedly often visited the beach with the royal family. The shallow warm water provides a perfect environment even for the youngest visitors.
5. Paradise beach, Lopar, Rab island: just as the Queen’s beach above, this 2km long strip of sand is a a perfect place for the little ones. The Paradise beach is equipped with restaurants, bars, and sports and leisure activities.
6. Vela Pržina, Lumbarda, Korčula island
7. Slatina beach, Martinšćica, Cres island: considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Cres-Lošinj archipelago, Slatina is located near a camp of the same name. It’s a great destination for a vacation filled with fun and recreation, and the beach is equipped with a restaurant, showers, changing rooms and a lifeguard tower. There’s a sports and animation centre nearby, suitable both for adults and children.
8. Sakarun beach, Dugi otok: the fine white sand at this 800m long beach makes the water look turquoise; the gorgeous scenery and a nearby pine forest mostly attract young couple, families with children and elders. In the evening, when the bars liven up, the place turns into a mecca for young visitors who organise beach parties.
9. Trstenica, Orebić on Pelješac
10. Dražica beach, Biograd na Moru: a short gravel beach ideal for children. Lots of shade to run to during the hottest hours in the day, and like many other beaches on this list, Dražica is also equipped by fun and sports activities to keep both the parents and the kids occupied.
