150,000 Croats Drive with Uber: Here’s How and Where

Daniela Rogulj

The people of Split adore shopping centers, the center is the most popular in Zagreb, and in Rijeka? The bus station.

A press release from Uber on March 28, 2018:

Uber has become the most efficient way for Croatians to travel to the very center of the largest Croatian cities, shopping centers and railway stations. Uber has now released an analysis of all the locations Croatian users traveled to last year in Zagreb, Rijeka and Split.

In Split, the most sought-after Uber ride was among the three largest shopping malls – the Mall of Split, the City Center One and the Joker Shopping Center. After shopping, the people of Split amost often traveled to the center – to Peristyle and the Riva. Zagreb’s city center was the most common meeting place in the capital city, followed by the main station!

Uber users in the metropolis most often sought transportation to or from the bus station, the airport and the railway station. In the center of the city, the most popular crossroads were Teslina and Preradovićeva Street, and the nearest point of the Flower Square, which can be reached by car. Around 32 percent of Uber drives in Zagreb last year started or ended here. The following locations are closest to Ban Jelačić Square, which are also popular: European Square and Kaptol, Gajeva Street, Gundulićeva, Petrinjska and Amruševa Crossroads and Zrinjevac.

In Rijeka, Uber users most often traveled to the bus station. Another favorite place was the Tower Center, followed by the center of the city itself. In the 15 most visited locations in Rijeka, there were also four educational institutions. Among others, Uber is loved by students of the University of Rijeka, Medicine and Law.

Of the 150,000 Croats using Uber, 40 percent of them use the application several times a week. 83 percent say it is because of the affordable price, and 71 percent say that a significant advantage is the ease of ordering a ride. In particular, they enjoy the transparency of pricing – that is, before they sit in an Uber vehicle, they will know exactly how much the ride will cost.

“In two and a half years, Uber has become an integral part of the lives of citizens who value a safe, transparent and efficient service. Whether they go out, go to work or lunch with their families, they know that Uber will bring them there safely and at a reasonable price. We value the trust and will continue to work on improving and expanding our service so that all citizens can travel safely around Croatian cities,” said Davor Tremac, General Manager of Uber for Southeast Europe.

Investigating the most popular locations in the cities, Uber spent 2017 completely anonymous, recording the start and end locations of the passengers.
