This new accolade could very well spark some new intererest in Russia for Croatia and its tourist offer
Russian edition of the world famous National Geographic Traveler magazine conducted a large online survey in search of the best holiday destinations as a part of their annual National Geographic Traveler Awards 2015, and our very own Croatia came out on top when it came to family holidays. News of this fantastic new achievement was spread by Facebook and Twitter on November 20, 2015 thanks to the Russian media service Russia Beyond the Headlines.
Along with Croatia, National Geographic Traveler Awards 2015 were won by Switzerland as the best Ski destination, New Zealand as the best adventure destination, Azerbaijan as the best discovery of the year and Ethiopia as the Most exotic destination.
Online survey was conducted for six months, more than 240 000 people voted, and according to the Editor in Chief of the Russian edition of the National Geographic Traveler, this award will play a role when the time comes for Russian travelers to select their holiday destination.
This award could not have come in a better time considering the downfall in Russian arrivals to Croatia over the last three years due to the Russian economic crisis and the introduction of Visas after Croatia joined the EU.
Award was presented in Moscow to the director of the Russian office of the Croatian Tourist Board Rajko Ružička who stated that this proves Croatia is still recognised on the Russian market as an extremely attractive and high quality holiday destination.
“Croatia is one of the most renowned destinations for family holidays, and our natural beauty and cultural heritage certainly contributed to this award“ Ružička said.
Now lets hope this award will indeed result in new generations of Russian guests coming to Croatia, and not only for a family holiday.
