For the 14th year in a row, the New York Times Travel Show was held at the Jacob K. Javits conference center in New York City.
The most visited travel fair on the East Coast of the United States, the New York Times Travel Show was held from January 27 to 29. At the fair this year, there were 500 exhibitors from 150 countries, of which as many as 40% were new exhibitors, reports HRTurizam on January 30, 2017.
Within the Croatian Tourist Board representation in the US was the Zagreb Tourist Board, the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, and two domestic companies Katarina Line and &adventure. A variety of destinations around the world were presented in 16 pavilions, and the rich program of the fair included a “Meet the Experts” workshop and numerous cultural and culinary performances on five cultural stages, which gathered more than 29,000 visitors and tourism professionals.
“That Croatia is definitely a desirable tourist destination among American tourists was shown in the great interest in presentations by Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Kvarner, within which they were awarding prize trips, and it could be seen as well in the general attendance to the Croatian booths,” says the Croatian Tourist Board.
The popularity of Croatia was confirmed for the second year in a row in the article by The New York Times titled “52 Places to Go in 2017” where two Croatian destinations were ranked – Dubrovnik in 6th place and Istria in 41st.
In addition, the Dubrovnik-Neretva County was visited by a considerable number of US tourists in 2016 (97,600) who made up a total of 286,000 overnight stays – which is an increase of 10% from 2015.
