Is 2018 Most Successful Year for Hotels in Dalmatia?

Daniela Rogulj

Hotels in Dalmatia have received confirmation that 2018 was their best year in business yet, thanks to the results of Hotel Benchmarking, which examines Croatia’s hotel industry.

Dalmatian hotels recorded the highest average occupancy, capacity utilization was as much as 20 percent better than the average of hotels in Croatia, and the highest prices of their services were almost 30 percent better than the average hotel prices in the country. Also, they also have the most significant total average revenue per available hotel room, according to a survey of “Benchmarking Croatian Hotels” which was done in October, reports HRTurizam on December 10, 2018.

The hotels in the four Dalmatian counties, including Zadar, Šibenik-Knin, Split-Dalmatia and Dubrovnik-Neretva County, outperformed their colleagues from all other regions for the first time in business and income, and found themselves at the top of hotel business, which for decades was reserved for the successful hoteliers from Istria, said the Tourist Board of Split-Dalmatia County.

The research has thus shown that the average utilization of hotel capacities in Croatia through September this year was 86 percent, while Dalmatia, simultaneously, averaged 89% in utilizing their hotel capacities, which is three percentage points higher than in Istria. For four months (June to late September), Dalmatian hoteliers were 90 to 98 percent occupied. Their average income per room was 116 euro in July and August. At the same time, in Istria, the average income per room was 87 euro per room.

Benchmarking’s goal is to collect online business data and compare the results with the averages of the competition. The Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management is the leader of this project, whose development began with the successful implementation of Benchmarking Croatian Hotels. A total of 112 hotels participated in the survey with a total of 23,423 accommodation units, which makes up 40.5% of the total accommodation capacity of hotels in Croatia.
