The Festival of Apoxyomenos and Antiquity is taking place on Lošinj Island between April 27th and May 22nd 2017.
When it comes to destination branding, the island of Lošinj has been doing a great job recently in making the most out of its latest symbol, the Apoxyomenos sculpture discovered at the bottom of the sea near Mali Lošinj. The opening of the impressive museum that houses the sculpture has been a starting point of Apoxyomenos’s image finding its way into every part of the tourist offer, crowned by a festival that is currently taking place on the island.
The Festival of Apoxyomenos and Antiquity that started on April 27th is a month-long manifestation with a rich programme of events, workshops and lectures organised at multiple locations on Lošinj Island and its surroundings. The concept is based on exploring different facets of antique cultural heritage: the festival is jam-packed with sailing trips along the ancient routes, guided tours around Lošinj and Cres, diving on archaeological sites, and gastronomy events presenting a rare opportunity to taste recipes originating from the classical age.
As Lošinj is also known as the island of vitality, the festival programme includes numerous spa treatments and fitness workshops named after the Greek athlete. In select hotels, you can book individual training sessions or massages, as well as participate in workshops on making organic cosmetics using the same ingredients as our ancient predecessors.
Those who are less interested in fitness and are more of the hedonist sort will be more than satisfied with the gourmet offer in numerous catering establishments, cooking classes and enology workshops on ancient wines. The most prestigious gastronomy event of the festival is the Château Mouton Rothschild Wine&Dine Exclusive Weekend, a six-course dinner complemented with seven wines from the Baron Phillipe de Rothschild winery. The exquisite experience in the Alhambra Boutique hotel will be hosted by Hervé Gouin, the global ambassador of the Baron Philippe de Rothschild wines, who will guide the guests through the evening and explain the pairings of selected wines and gourmet delicacies.
The festival is coinciding with the 11th Festival of Lošinj cuisine, both of them presenting valuable additions to the tourist offer in the preseason. The entire programme and the accompanying schedule can be found here; the information is provided in Croatian, English, German and Italian.
