The 2017 tourist season in Kvarner has already begun with an increase in arrivals and overnights stays in comparison to January 2016.
In January 2017, Kvarner achieved an 11% increase in arrivals and 12% more overnight stays (21,809 arrivals and 72,143 overnight stays) when compared to January 2016. Foreign tourists accounted for 55% of this result, while domestic tourists accounted for 45% of the result, reports HRTurizam on February 7, 2017.
In January, most overnights were made by domestic tourists (32,528 overnight stays). In second were guests from Austria (9,398 overnights), followed by the Italians (8,369 overnights), Germans (3,714 overnights), Slovenians (3,595 overnights) and guests from the United States (3,255 overnights). When looking at the subregions, nearly half of the overnight stays were achieved by the Opatija Riviera, 20% came from the Rijeka area, and Gorski Kotar and the islands of Losinj and Krk each made up 8% of the overnight stays.
The guests mostly stayed in hotels which accounted for 60% of overnight stays, while households are represented with 24%, and other accommodations made up 16%.
Director of the Kvarner Tourist Board Ph.D. Irena Peršić Živadinov commented on the stellar start to the 2017 season.
”The excellent results of last year’s tourist season have continued in January 2017 and we are looking forward to a big increase in overnight stays out of season. Large events such as Carnival are always an attractive motive to pull visitors to the destination. We are happy that, in contrast to the lower category hotels, we have especially noticed a large increase in the number of overnight stays in hotels with 4 and 5 stars, which means that quality guests are coming here.”
Taking into account commercial and non-commercial traffic, Kvarner during January 2017 recorded almost 79,000 overnight stays which is 18% more than January 2016.
