Another day, another top 20 list, this time from Yahoo on October 24, 2017. Could you at least get the country right?
The island of Hvar is often called the Croatian Ibiza, a claim I find very fun, giving the fact it has four nightclubs on the entire island, one of which is a former egg factory.
But do the travel giants over at Yahoo know something the rest of us don’t?
It is ‘let’s make a pointless list’ season again. On the one hand, it is always nice promotion to see the island of Hvar once more among the world’s top 20 islands in the world, just a week after Conde Nast named it in the world’s top 30.
But is Hvar really in Spain? Is Hvar really a lot closer to Ibiza than we previously thought?
If there is any point to these pointless clickbait lists, then it might be slightly justifiable if the basic information was correct. For those who don’t know, Hvar is in Croatia, which is a country on the Adriatic to the right of Italy, with three coastal neighbours – Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
Bravo, Yahoo – you can go back to bed now.
But not, perhaps, before we have digested the pearls of travel wisdom imparted by Yahoo about this famous Spanish island:
“Hvar, Spain.
Start by exploring the inland lavender fields and then head to the secluded beaches. For more local culture, visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the stone-built architecture of Hvar Town.”
Sounds like a delightful Spanish resort.
