As part of this year’s ‘Days of Diocletian’ event, the project ‘Nights of Diocletian’ was held on Friday in Split.

September 1, 2018 – “Greetings to Split, Croatia’s current champion in tourism. Tonight is wonderful because we have the opportunity to celebrate the rich history and heritage we need to glorify. We have a chance to see how people once lived in our Square, one of the few in the world that depicts how we lived in the past,” Glavina said on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism.

Actor Robert Kurbaša and former Miss Universe Croatia and fitness instructor Renata Lovrinčević Buljan were this year’s Emperor Diocletian and Empress Prisca.

The organizer of the event, Tonči Šundov, prepared a vibrant program that included fire dancing, an acrobatic show, Roman guards and legions, gladiator fights and the inaugural performance of the Split Gladiators. The entertainment of the program was the singing choir Srdelice, the DNF team, Crowd Control, who conducted the acrobatic fire show, the ‘Music Talents’ show by Teane Kovačević, and Ivana Vatavuk, who choreographed the Roman Guards.

The event also included a Roman football match organized by the Association Gaj Laberije, where the Delmati beat the Romans 4:2. The evening was led by Ines Nosić and Marko Šiklić, and designer Igor Djuga dressed the Emperor and Empress.

“This year’s ‘Nights of Diocletian’ showed why it is a top manifestation that revives the history of our city in a unique way. We are always happy to welcome locals and foreign visitors to a traditional event, and it is nice to see them dressed in togas with crowns on their heads. I believe that we best presented and promoted Dalmatia, as well as all of Croatia,” Šundov concluded.
