The city of Poreč, one of the most attractive destinations in Istria, is adding to the tourist offer: the main city beach underwent an ambitious renovation project and now has a new look just in time for the season, reports Glas Istre.
Located near the city marina, the beach is 150 metres long and represents a popular gathering point for large numbers of tourists and locals. Seeing that the existing infrastructure was dangerously worn out, the wall retaining the promenade got restored, and a new layer of pebbles was laid out on the beach. There’s a new sports and recreation zone with an outdoor gym, and a smart bench powered by solar panels was installed as well. The most attractive feature, however, is the musical fence, an interactive installation that enables people to play their own melodies by tapping the fence bars as they pass by.
Deputy mayor Loris Peršurić said the investment was worth 1,84 million kuna before tax, with part of the expenses provided by the Ministry of Tourism who supported the project with 600.000 kuna. Peršurić made sure to remind the public that the City has invested more than seven million kuna in renovating the city beaches in the last three years, the most recent one being the sixth in a row. “The large-scale project of beach renovation aims to preserve the green areas in our city, as all of them represent places where we grew up and learned how to swim.” said Peršurić.
