The Dogus Group, through its company D-Marin, is investing in the development and promotion of nautical tourism and the sport of sailing in Croatia.

The trial sailing in the waters of Zadar has officially begun for the D-Marin Farr 40 Regatta Zadar, which will run from September 21 to 24. Some of the world’s best crews in the Farr 40 class will gather for this four day sailing event, participating in a maximum of eleven races, which will be held everyday from 10h to 16:30h.

“Dogus Group and D-Marin have invested significant resources for years in the development of yachting and nautical tourism in Croatia. We believe that it is through the organization of international competitions, such as the D-Marin Farr 40 Regatta Zadar, that further builds this tourist destination and strengthens its sailing potential. These regattas are seeing just the beginning, and in the future we want to bring the race to an even more sophisticated class and thus strengthen the position of the Croatian world nautical map,” said Burak Baykan, the regional director of Dogus Group for Croatia and Montenegro. He added that, “Commitment to the promotion and development of sailing sport Dogus group was shown last year when D-Marin became a sponsor of the sailing crew Fantela-Marenić. Cooperation with our golden Olympians will continue in the next year, giving them the support to win new trophies.”

Representatives from Farr 40 visited all of the marinas on the Adriatic coast last year, and decided that the D-Marin Marina in Šibenik and Zadar have proven to be best for the organization of such an event. Two Croatian marinas along with one in Ancona became part of the Farr 40 Circuit Adriatic Championship 2016. Wolfgang Schaffer, the Vice President of the Farr 40 organization pointed out that “The regatta in this class has been held for 19 years in 40 countries. We are extremely excited to see Croatia join the elite group of host countries for regattas in this class with even two races. The Croatian coast really is one of the most beautiful in the world.”

Exciting sailing at D-Marin Farr 40 Regatta Zadar is expected by Šime Fantela, who said that Zadar has the ideal conditions for sailing, especially at this time of the year. “I am very pleased that the Farr 40 Regatta will be held in the waters of Zadar because this city deserves it, and I think this is the beginning of the boom for sailing in Zadar. The Farr 40 fleet is respectable with excellent ships and a great crew and I am confident that people will enjoy watching the race,” added Šime.

“Attractive features, such as the Farr 40 Regatta, contribute to the improvement of the tourist offer out of season and positively influences the development of the local community. I believe that with continued investment in high-class facilities, improving the quality of services, and events like this, we can position ourselves as a more desirable tourist destination,” said Ante Martinac, Mayor of Sukošan.

D-Marin Farr 40 Regatta Zadar is the third and last part of the Adriatic Circuit Championship in 2016. The first race within the championship was held in Šibenik back in May, while Ancona in Italy held the races in July.
