November the 23rd, 2024 – All we’ve been hearing about for ages now is the cost of more or less everything having shot up. What does the go to travel website TripAdvisor say about Croatian prices, however?

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, it was said at the Days of Croatian Tourism (Dani Hrvatskog Turizma/DHT) event that throughout 2024, Croatia was deemed to have had reasonable food and beverage prices in most tourist destinations. The average amount spent per night in a hotel in Croatia was lower than in its top tourism competitors. According to TripAdvisor and its view on Croatian prices, this country also stands out for its “value for money” experiences.

TripAdvisor is otherwise the largest online travel search and review platform, with an offer of more than 135,000 global destinations and more than 463 million users per month. Those users write and leave their reviews there about value for money. Value for money was the main topic of research presented at DHT, organised by the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ). It was presented by Lena Arbury and Antony Powell from TripAdvisor for the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa).

According to the results of the research for the period from January to October this year, the platform’s users mostly express positive opinions about Croatia in their reviews. That also includes the thoughts of TripAdvisor users on Croatian prices, deemed fair. Those reviews also have “some sentiment” to them, precisely because of the experiences and impressions those tourists gained during their stay here.

In reviews for Croatia, most of them have a positive note, with prominent mention of service and experience. It was also noted that it is interesting to see that the most popular keyword in reviews for Croatia is “food”, unlike the main competitors, where the main word is “tours”.

The most common topics in reviews for Croatia are its incredible landscapes and heritage, recommendations from tour guides, culinary delights, and warm hospitality. Powell also emphasised that overall reviews for Croatia are extremely positive, with the average destination rating being 4.4 out of 5, which is the same as for Greece. It’s also slightly better than those for Italy and the United Kingdom (each with a rating of 4.3), and for Spain and the USA (with ratings of 4.2).

Experiences in Croatia have the highest rating of all, 4.7. That is a higher score than the country’s competitors, which TripAdvisor representatives concluded by commenting that “Croatia is equal to or exceeds other destinations in value, and experience is everything”.

Powell stated that July and August are the strongest months for foreign tourist arrivals to Croatia, while December has the lowest inbound traffic. He added that Croatia as a destination was not in the top ten European countries observed, which were the UK, Germany, Italy, the US, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

The most searched categories of experiences and experiences in Croatia were outdoor activities, nature, parks and sightseeing (with more than 60 percent). They were followed by tours, sightseeing and culture, while the least searched were performances, concerts and theatres (with just 0.2 percent).
