After the recent 20th anniversary commemorations of Operation Storm, today sees another historical remembrance dating much further back in the Croatian psyche – the 1715 Siege of Sinj against the Ottoman Turks. 

The event is commemorated each year by the last remaining knights’ tournament in Europe, the Sinj Alka, one of Croatia’s most important cultural events, broadcast live each year on national television, and attended by the Croatian President.

The aim? ‘U sridu’ – in the middle. To lance the centre of the Alka ring.
