Photo of the Day: The Glory of Dubrovnik

The history and wealth of the Dubrovnik Republic is displayed in its old walled town. Once a mighty naval power, third strongest in the 16th century, it managed to keep its independence even at the height of the Turkish conquest of Europe. 

The Republic was the first to abolish slavery in Europe and the first to recognise the United States of America. The skill of its diplomats and traders was unmatched for centuries, intertwined into their proud town.

Any time of year is good to visit and experience Dubrovnik – the town, its history, gastronomy and culture.
