When the media first unveiled the plans for Mladen Rožanić’s new winery and hotel project in Motovun, it became evident that it would be a truly spectacular structure.
Rožanić’s initial idea was to unite his love for wine and food under one roof.
The stone building, formerly the municipal cellar of Motovun dating back to 1902 and personally opened by Emperor Franz Joseph I, was the perfect choice for housing the Wine & Heritage Hotel Roxanich, with a five-story wine cellar at its base.
The renowned architect Idis Turato deserves the most credit for realizing and conceptualizing the project.
Mladen Rožanić described how Turato’s architectural masterpiece reflects his philosophy, emphasizing combining a passion for nature and eno-gastronomy under one roof.
The strong friendship between Rožanić and Turato greatly facilitated the project. In the interview, Rožanić also highlighted that freedom is his life’s most important thing.
He believes that the freedom of thought and honest action leads to a genuine, simple, yet authentic way of understanding life and achieving a balance of mind, body, and spirit.
“The beauty of life lies in growth and development. I am not the same person I was in 2000, 2010, and certainly not today. My skills and routines have changed.
We can apply this to wine as well. I never try to replicate the taste of the previous year. I strive to give my interpretation of the harvest,” stated Mladen Rožanić in the interview with Designboom.
