Total Croatia News

Updated on:

September 25, 2023 – Croatia is a wine country of boutique, family-owned wineries. Most wine production here is limited and, therefore, almost unreachable in other countries, let alone on other continents.

A wealth of indigenous grape varieties, more than 150 in a small country, entices all of us, fine wine lovers. The only problem, seemed to be, how to reach wines outside of Croatia?

Can you get Croatian wine in the US?

Wine & More is a highly reliable Croatian online wine shop that delivers Croatian wines to the US market. This is great news for those of you who have been attempting to bring one or more bottles to the US.

The selection was carefully chosen, and some of the most sought-after Croatian wines can now be delivered to your address in the US.

But that is not all, new wines will be added frequently, so you’ll always have something new to try every time you visit and shop.

We received a lot of inquiries about the Croatian wines in the US. After visiting our beautiful country for holidays, many US citizens seem to fall in love with our wines. The only problem was they couldn’t find it back in their country, “ says Dario Drmač, founder of wineandmore.com “We worked hard to open sales channels in the US, and now, we can proudly announce that we can ship Croatian wines to the US.”

wine recommendations on what to shop first

In order to make your first purchase easier, we came up with the wine suggestions you wouldn’t want to miss on Wine & More.

The “original” Zinfandel

Zinfandel, one of the few grape varieties that were thought to be native to the US, actually has roots right here in Croatia.

Here, the variety is called Crljenak Kaštelanski (by the village where the original vines were found Kaštela) or Tribidrag and Pribidrag.

Since the discovery, the Crljenak started taking over the vineyards in Dalmatia but the production still remains very limited – around 20 producers now make wines from Crljenak grapes. Therefore, we are thrilled to see its finally available in the US.

Croatian Grand Cru – Dingač is here!

First protected appellation and the most well-known, powerful red in Croatia. Plavac Mali from the Dingač steep vineyards is the “famous” wine in Croatia.

Not without reason, this is a concentrated, sun-batched elixir of the flavourful Plavac Mali (meaning the little blue) grapes. Once you visit Dingač on the Pelješac peninsula, you can imagine how powerful the wines coming from this specific location will be.

Great with meat dishes or high-quality dark chocolates and dried plums, this tannic red will totally surround your taste buds.

Everything from Mediterranean herbs, plums, anchovies, and sea salt can be detected. On the palate, this wine continues to be full-bodied, with slightly higher alcohol levels that are well balanced with the richness and roundness only the Dingač can offer.

If you’re looking for a truly unique wine-tasting experience featuring Plavac Mali, check out Navis Mysterium from Edivo Winery.

“The Sea Mystery” is an apt name, as everything from the wine-making process to the other original Croatian products is shrouded in mystery.

Once bottled, the wine is sunken to depths of 18-25 meters and scattered in several locations across Pelješac aquatorium. It ages in bottles for three months before spending one to two years in the sea.

You won’t find anything quite like it anywhere else.

Some of the most notable Plavac Mali winemakers and wineries are now available in the US market:
