A busy time coming up for the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra.
Bring a blanket and a snack, lie down on the grass and spend the last summer Saturday evening with the orchestra which will play Strauss, Lisinski and Beethoven. Where? In Zagreb, at the Maksimir Park, where tomorrow starting at 6 pm, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra will perform under the baton of great young maestro Filip Pavišić, reports Vecernji List on September 18, 2015.
With this year’s concert at the Maksimir Park, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra wants to establish a tradition similar to the Waldbühne concerts of the Berlin Philharmonic. The director of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra Mirko Boch has a bigger dream: a big summer festival in Zagreb, at the beautiful open spaces such as Maksimir and Zrinjevac, and at the Lisinski Concert Hall which should not stay closed all summer.
His ideas are supported by the mayor of Zagreb Milan Bandić, who believes that the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra is the main representative of Croatian culture. In order for the orchestra to have a deserved special status among cultural institutions, it is necessary to adopt a special law which is something that is being discussed for years.
The orchestra will travel a lot in the new season. The performances in Oman, in the magnificent Opera in Muscat, will fill the coffers of the orchestra, while the New Year’s concert in Salzburg, under the direction of the new chief conductor David Danzmayr, will bring prestige, just like the performances at the festivals in Brescia and Bergamo.
In addition, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra will travel to New York in early February 2016. At the world famous Carnegie Hall, the orchestra will perform and record a new work by the famous Syrian composer and pianist Malek Jandali. The work will be performed in Zagreb as well, at a concert to mark the 100th anniversary of Islam as officially recognized religion in Croatia.
The audience will again enjoy the performances by maestro Kitayenko whose love for Zagreb is strong as ever. Another major event will be the reappearance of the former chief conductor Kazushi Ono. In addition to all that, the Philharmonic Orchestra will give a boost to the Croatian economy: the musicians will have new tail coats, suits and shoes produced by Varteks and Borovo.
The form of the orchestra can best be checked next Friday at the Lisinski Concert Hall, with maestro Ivan Repušić and Alexander Rudin. With this great cellist, the Philharmonic Orchestra will a day later travel to its first trip of the new season, to Vukovar.
