July 22, 2023 – We can admit this about Croatia – driving through the country is a pretty smooth experience in most cases. Granted, not all the roads are great, and there are many of the ones which we call our “50 Shades of Gray” roads, especially in eastern Croatia. Once you make it to the Croatian highways, though, you know you’ll be just fine.
Croatian highways are ranking among the best in Europe and the world, the World Economic Forum announced, and the Croatian Highways (Hrvatske Autoceste – HAC) reported the news on Friday, writes Poslovni Dnevnik.
In the competition of 141 countries, Croatia shares the 12th place in the world ranking of the best global road infrastructures with an average rating of 5.6. It shared its spot with Denmark and Taiwan, says the HAC announcement.
Along with the report of the World Economic Forum, a ranking list of the quality of road infrastructure in 141 countries was also published.
Singapore has the highest average rating of 6.5. Then comes the group of countries with an average rating, which includes Croatia, followed by some significantly more developed countries, such as the United Kingdom, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Luxembourg, Qatar and the USA.
Of the neighbouring countries, Slovenia is in 36th place, while, for example, Hungary took the 69th place.
HAC reminds that in 2018, in the competition among 137 countries, with an average score of 5.5, Croatia shared 13th place with Denmark, Oman, Germany, Spain, Qatar, Sweden and Luxembourg.
From that group, the only improvement in infrastructure was made in Croatia and Spain, while the other countries now ranked lower than Croatia in terms of the quality of road infrastructure.
“The quality of Croatian highways is the result of continuous investment in infrastructure through regular and extraordinary maintenance and investment in projects to increase traffic safety,” HAC concludes.
