April the 11th, 2024 – Rimac Technology has partnered up with no less than BMW. Here’s more about what they’ll jointly produce going forward.
As Poslovni Dnevnik/Josipa Ban writes, Rimac Technology, a manufacturer of electric drive systems and battery systems for global car manufacturers, has entered into a long-term partnership with the BMW Group. Rimac Technology will develop and manufacture high-voltage battery systems for BMW Group vehicles that will be used in future model generations scheduled for the second half of the 2020s.
By delivering large quantities of advanced battery systems, the remarkable Rimac Technology is moving into the next phase – the development and production of technology for projects in large series. This commendable collaboration with the BMW Group marks a significant milestone for Rimac Technology, as it represents the largest and most ambitious project the company has had so far – by far.
This development step requires the establishment of complex and large automated production lines for batteries, which will be located in the new Rimac Campus near Zagreb. A significant part of the campus will be dedicated to this project, which underlines the company’s commitment to the partnership with the BMW Group.
Mate Rimac, the founder and CEO of the Rimac Group, pointed out that his business journey began precisely with a BMW 3 series from 1984, which he converted into an electric car in his garage when he was only 20 years old, which is an interesting link with this current partnership with the BMW Group.
“This collaboration marks a key moment in the growth of Rimac Technology and is a clear sign of the transition from a provider of high-performance products for small series models (such as Aston Martin Valkyrie, Pininfarina Battista, Rimac Nevera, etc.) to a manufacturer with large capacities for projects such as this one with the BMW Group. With the continuous growth of our business, including the opening of the Rimac Campus, we’re more than ready to deliver large projects for leading brands in the automotive industry. This project with the BMW Group is one of the first large-scale projects for us, but we’re arranging many more similar jobs,” revealed the innovative and determined Mate Rimac.
The individual strengths and expertise of these companies complement each other in an extremely productive way. The BMW Group’s electrification strategy is aimed at further building its leading position in the premium electric mobility sector. The BMW Group brings expertise in the field of batteries and electric drive systems that it has acquired over more than 15 years to this partnership.
The two partners will announce more information about the type of strategic partnership, as well as its scope and content, at a later stage.
