September the 20th, 2026 – Croatian prices rose once again this August, with restaurants, housing and fuel in particular all climbing up.
The prices of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by the consumer price index, in August 2026 compared to August 2025 (on an annual basis) were on average higher by 4.2%, while compared to July 2026 (on a monthly basis) they were on average higher by 0.4%.
Morski reports that when observed according to the main groups of the ECOICOP classification, ver. 2, on an annual basis, the largest increase in consumer prices on average was recorded in the groups Transport, by 13.5% (contribution to the increase of +1.88 percentage points), Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, by 10.8% (+1.62 percentage points), Restaurants and accommodation services, by 6.1% (+0.34 percentage points), Health, by 5.1% (+0.14 percentage points), Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, by 3.9% (+0.19 percentage points), Insurance services and financial services, by 3.6% (+0.07 percentage points), Personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services, by 2.8% (+0.14 percentage points), Information and communication, by 2.7% (+0.16 percentage points), and Recreation, sport and culture, by 2.4% (+0.09 percentage points). The increase in prices on an annual basis was mitigated by a fall in prices in the groups Clothing and footwear, by 5.1% (contribution to the fall of -0.36 percentage points), Education services, by 2.0% (-0.01 percentage points), Food and non-alcoholic beverages, by 0.6% (-0.16 percentage points), and Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, by 0.3% (-0.02 percentage points).
According to the main components of the index (special aggregates), an increase in prices on an annual basis was recorded in the components Energy, by 17.6%, Services, by 7.2%, and Food, beverages and tobacco, by 0.1%, while a fall in prices is observed in the component Industrial non-food products excluding energy, by 1.3%. An increase in prices on a monthly basis was recorded in the components Energy, by 3.9%, and Services, by 0.1%, while a fall in prices appeared in the components Industrial non-food products excluding energy, by 0.9%, and Food, beverages and tobacco, by 0.2%.
The prices of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by the harmonised index of consumer prices, in August 2026 compared to August 2025 (on an annual basis) were on average higher by 3.7%. Compared to July 2026 (on a monthly basis) they were on average higher by 0.3%.
