October the 2nd, 2024 – Despite the summer season now being firmly over, Croatian toll fees are set to remain at their seasonal prices to compensate for the huge costs of upgrades and construction.

As Morski writes, at this moment in time, there are some huge cash sums associated with increases in maintenance and construction costs. As a result of those costs, The motorways must correct Croatian toll fees in order to ensure financial stability going forward. Therefore, Croatian toll fees for vehicles in the I.A, I. and II. vehicle categories are set to remain at their seasonal prices. The toll for heavy vehicles remains the same.

Back in 2017, seasonal costs to use the motorways were raised during the three busiest summer months. It was one of the measures to allow for the financial restructuring of companies in the road sector. Those fees however were not actually applied for four years (during and after the COVID-19 crisis). Aside from that, Croatian toll fees haven’t actually changed since 2012.

It’s also important to note that since Croatia joined the Eurozone, fees for road users have altered very slightly as a result of currency conversion during the switchover from the kuna to the euro. The price for using a handy ENC device has also been reduced to fifteen euros. In addition to having to pay the ENC toll, the users of these groups will still have access to incentive models with a discount of up to 33.48%, Hrvatske Autoceste/Croatian Motorways (HAC) announced.

Otherwise, the fees for using Croatia’s incredibly well-maintained motorways has always been a point of contention. Many consider them to be far too expensive in relation to the systems and costs employed by the likes of neighbouring Slovenia.
