November the 29th, 2024 – The construction of the very first Croatian energy independent spa has begun in Bjelovar as part of a 41.5 million euro project.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the construction of the much anticipated Bjelovar Spa has begun in Veliki Korenovo. It is the largest infrastructure project in Bjelovar’s history, worth 41.5 million euros excluding VAT. It will also be financed through non-refundable EU funds, Mayor Dario Hrebak revealed this week.
This giant Bjelovar project will be entirely unique Croatia in that they will produce more energy than they will consume. They’re also expected to greatly contribute to the tourist, economic and sports offer not only of Bjelovar, but also of continental Croatia, Hrebak pointed out at the opening of the works.
“Our Bjelovar Spa will be the very first Croatian energy independent spa. It will be heated with geothermal energy, which will put Bjelovar in a very special position on the tourist map of continental Croatia. In addition, the Olympic pool will be internationally licensed for water polo and swimming competitions,” he added.
The new complex will contain seven pools with a total water surface spanning 3,600 square metres, including the Olympic pool itself. The construction also includes accommodation for athletes, and according to Hrebak, there’s also interest in building a hotel with 130 rooms nearby.
The very first Croatian energy independent spa in Bjelovar will also contribute to the development of small family farms (OPGs) and the promotion of local food production. The proximity of the expressway, which should be completed by mid-2026, and excellent connections with the rest of Croatia will make this location extremely attractive for tourists, as well as curious investors, Hrebak noted.
The works on the first Croatian energy independent spa are being carried out by the Croatian companies Radnik from Križevci and Hidroregulacija from Bjelovar, and the construction should be completed in fifteen months.
