Although the Croatian Football officials were claiming that the fine could be worse, it is much milder than they expected, so maybe the media outrage will calm down, and the focus can be back on the football and tomorrow’s game.
The independent UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) met on June 20, 2016, in Paris to deal with the disciplinary proceedings opened against the Croatian Football Federation following the incidents which occurred at the Czech Republic v Croatia match on 18 June in Saint-Etienne.
Charges relating to crowd disturbances, use of fireworks, throwing of missiles and racist behavior was brought against the CFF, and the CEDB decided to impose the following sanctions:
• A fine of €100,000.-
• To prohibit the HNS from selling tickets to certain fans (identified by the CFF and the Croatian authorities as hooligans) for the remainder of UEFA EURO 2016. This sanction is deferred for a probationary period until the end of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Croatian team has arrived in Bordeaux, the venue for tomorrow’s match against Spain. According to the latest reports, Luka Modrić will sit this one out, as Croatia has practically secured the qualification to the next stage.
