Mertojak pediatric infirmary is no longer on call so young patients have to head straight to the hospital ER
It may be the festive season in the world, but it is also the season when we, especially our youngsters, start getting the sniffles or first signs of the flu. In Split, getting the flu, fever or any other kind of illness during the holidays is not a good idea for one reason only. There are no pediatric infirmaries on call during the holidays as we were able to see for ourselves on December 26, 2015, so we can expect crowds in the emergency room since that will be the only place in the city where you will be able to get some medical help for your children in case you need it. This is the site we found in the Mertojak infirmary this morning, and of course, there was no explanation as to why they are closed.
This is a reoccurring problem in Split since the County public health centre is having trouble finding pediatricians that have signed a concession contract to actually be on call during the holidays. So, in case you do need medical assistance for your children today, tomorrow or on New Year’s, don’t even try to waste your time heading towards the Mertojak infirmary, head straight to the Emergency service at the Split hospital and get ready for a long wait.
