First off, where should you go to find your gifts?
You’ll see plenty of pop up booths in pazar (our green market) and just outside the palace walls you’ll see even more. Here you’ll find everything from lavender to knock off bags, cheap Croatian football jerseys to beautifully knit doilies. The flea market over by Đardin boasts a lot of very cool vintage pieces, ranging from old military attire to antique serving platters.
Inside Diocletian’s podrum (basement/cellar) you’ll be met with jewelry stands filled with authentic corals, unique jewelry pieces made by Croatian artists, and artwork done by Split locals. Here you can also find handmade figurines, and many pieces made from our Brač stone.
Within the palace and through the alleyways you’ll find shops like Aroma Dalmatia, selling everything authentically Croatian such as olive oils, wines, honey, salts, and even soaps. Cro Corner, hence the name, also sells “made in Croatia” products, and here you can find a wide variety of toys for children as well as clothing and knick knacks.
Now, what should you buy? The most traditionally Croatian gifts would be lavender (from the islands, of course), olive oils (also from the islands), wine (if you can fit it in your suitcase, bring it), rakija (a must), ties (because Croatians invented them), and everything from art to our precious bakery treats.
