The railroad section from Križevci to the state border is funded with 241 million Euro
The European Commission has granted Croatia, through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), in the transportation area 12 projects for which CEF will allocate 306,9 million Euro, from a total of 19 applied projects, Večernji List reported on July 19, 2016.
The largest amount will be spent on financing the railroad section Križevci-Koprivnica-state border with Hungary, a total of 241,3 million Euro.
As the CEF explained, modernisation of the railroad network is a main priority of Croatia. The Križevci railroad project entails the upgrade and new track construction in the length of 43.2 kilometres.
The project is located in the Mediterranean corridor and is part of a global modernisation project of the railroad section Zagreb-Hungarian border, with four activities: construction, engineering supervision, project management and land purchase.
The explanation details the rail section will have a positive effect on managing transportation, congestion, interoperability, safety and environment by moving traffic from roads to rails.
The European Commission has already granted EU funds to co-finance the renovation of the existing and construction of a anew track for the section from Dugo Selo to Križevci. Construction works on the section from Rijeka to Botovo are worth 1.25 billion Kuna, co-financed from EU sources with 85%.
To upgrade the infrastructure of the Rijeka Port, CEF has granted nearly 30 million Euro, for the Zagreb quay 26.8 million Euro and for the General Cargo terminal 3.1 million Euro. Co-financing these projects is elaborated by the fact that Rijeka is the largest port in Croatia, while the goal of applied projects for the Zagreb quay is to develop a railroad for mutual connection and enable the increase of transportation between Middle and Eastern Europe and vice versa.
The General Cargo terminal project is presented as having a positive effect on interoperability, multimodality, service quality and safety, improving the harbour operation and increasing capacity. CEF has also granted 7 million Euro for the Svilaj bridge on the Sava river, on the 5c corridor, whose goal is to resolve a large road bottleneck between Croatia and Bosnia&Herzegovina.
Other granted projects for c-financing are Corisma, regarding cross border cooperation for data exchange, two SESAR programme implementations – Unique European Sky, research programme, as well as a traffic management project in the Zagreb International Airport. Granted is also a project to construct electric vehicle charging stations that would collect data on the usage of these vehicles, and also the Crocodile II project for coordinated traffic management and high quality of passenger information, as well as a project for the construction of natural gas pumps and an air traffic management project.
The value of these projects ranges from several hundred thousand Euro to 11 million Euro. The total budget of CEF Transport is 24.5 billion Euro for the 2014-2020 period.
