Official statistics released on September 9, 2016 show that this has been another bumper year for Central Dalmatian tourism.
It is a region of some of Croatia’s most charming islands – Brac, Hvar, Solta and Vis; a region with the beach heaven of the Makarska Riviera, UNESCO World Heritage sites in the shape of the Stari Grad Plain, stecchi near Imotski, Diocletian’s Palace and the old town of Trogir; Croatia’s new hit destination of Split; a Game of Thrones attraction in with locations in Klis, Split, Kastela and Zrnovnica; and a wealth of heritage and adventure tourism opportunities in the Dalmatian hinterland.
And it seems that the message is getting through to tourists, as official statistics released today show that more than 5 million overnight stays were registered in the region for August 2016 alone. The 5,031,957 overnight stays were an increase on the 4,771,003 registered in 2015, numbers reflected in actual tourist arrivals – 764,321 to 728,881.
If 2015 was a bumper year for Central Dalmatia, it is going to be surpassed by this year’s numbers, with current arrivals and overnights for the year up an impressive 9% in both cases.
Tourist arrivals 2016 – 2,202,243 versus last year’s 2,012,672
Tourist overnight stays 2016 – 12,443, 421 versus last year’s 11, 462,563
