The President will visit New York next week.
Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović will visit New York from 19 to 23 September where she will participate in the 71st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, announced the Office of the President, reports Večernji List on September 16, 2016.
The official opening of the General Assembly of the United Nations will be held on Tuesday, and President Grabar-Kitarović will participate in the general debate on Wednesday, 21 September. The topic will be “The Goals of Sustainable Development: General Incentives for the Transformation of the World”.
During the General Assembly meeting, the President will co-chair a roundtable on “Global Compact on the Division of Responsibility for Refugees: Respect for International Law”. She will also deliver a speech at the plenary session of the summit on large movements of refugees and migrants. The President is expected to participate in a high-level discussion, co-chaired by presidents of Chile and Lithuania, on the economic cost of violence against women.
On the margins of the General Assembly, a global gathering Equal Futures Partnership will be held at the highest level. President Grabar-Kitarović will chair this event on the topic of economic and political empowerment of women. During the participation in the 71st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the President will meet with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, as well as with many other heads of states and governments.
